The Official Vehicle that all Indy Autonomous Challenge Teams must use is the Dallara-produced IL-15 that has been retrofitted with hardware and controls to enable automation.
Since 2001, Dallara has been the sole supplier of the Indy Lights Series, a championship whose main goal is to prepare drivers for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
Indy Lights races are held concurrently and on the same tracks as NTT INDYCAR SERIES (superspeedway, short oval, permanent road course, street circuit), in order to train the young drivers for real race conditions and to generate the necessary attention from NTT INDYCAR SERIES teams.
Among the NTT INDYCAR SERIES drivers who have raced successfully in Indy Lights are Marco Andretti, Josef Newgarden, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Scott Dixon.
The Dallara IL-15 is a collaboration between Dallara’s Italian headquarters in Varano Melegari (Parma) and Dallara IndyCar Factory in Speedway, Indiana. The new car offers a modern, stylish appearance and provides the proper training required for drivers as the final step on the ladder to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
